In Pursuit of Truth, Goodness and Beauty may we lift our hearts up to Him

“You know also that the beginning is the most important part of an work, especially in the case of a young and tender thing; for that is the time at which the character is being formed and the desired impression is more readily taken.”

Plato

In accordance with the Classical Tradition as well as the principles and philosophies of Charlotte Mason, we believe it best not to rush a child into formal lessons. Play is GOOD. Laughter, exploration and experiences will draw a child into a life where curiosity and wonder drive their education. Tenderness, gentleness and closeness with mom and friends during the beginning of this journey will foster an awareness of the beauty and goodness of God.

Therefore formal lessons at Sursum Corda do not begin until the student is in Form I (or First Grade in the US school system). Childhood is precious and should last as long as possible.

We understand this approach is shockingly counter-cultural. But because we believe so strongly in starting well and in preserving these beautiful early years, we want to create an environment where mom is supported in her decision wait on formal lessons. This time together will serve as a predictable period where you can PLAY (and learn) alongside your child and other like-minded mothers.

The “curriculum” we will use is based on principles, philosophies and methods that seek to value the whole child and advocate educating each one accordingly. This is NOT “early education light”.

“We want to give you the freedom to enjoy your children during these precious years when they are fresh from God. Live a rich life with them. Explore the world. Read great books. Laugh. A lot. Sing joy over them. Nurture your relationship. Create beautiful art together. Take jubilance in numbers and language, for they are a gift. Serve others shoulder to shoulder. These are precious years that you will always look back on longingly. Enjoy the days and don’t wish them away by rushing or worrying. Cultivate wonder which will fuel and inspire your child to pursue a life overflowing with worship, work and wisdom.”
