“Cultivating Wonder” – Sursum Corda News February 2022
Dear Sursum Corda Mamas–
“Cultivate” wonder. Our vision statement says we “cultivate the pursuit of wonder.” How do you cultivate a crop like wonder? In my mind’s eye, I see you each out there, tilling the soil: “yes, we will start now,” “yes, you must narrate again.” I see you sowing the seeds–seeds of unhurried time–chasing down that rabbit trail on the internet, lifting eyes to see that eagle, reading the same Recitation for the hundredth time till the words are like old friends. I see you watering with relationships, your students’ wonder irrigated by the glow in your eyes when you find the name of that plant, by the energy of a real discussion with peers. You clear the way for the sun–our Lord–to shine on that crop. You fertilize–well, which of your lives does not have some smelly fertilizer to add to the growth?
What does your little farm need this month? Diligence at home? Unrushed time in your Sursum Corda classroom? Laughing acceptance of a little fertilizer? Keep at it, friends! This is the sweetest crop–this crop that “awakens our souls to God.”
With love,
Heather (for the Board)
